Improving Pasture Management for Sustainable Livestock Production

Improving Pasture Management for Sustainable Livestock Production

This project, led by the Tri-State (CT/MA/RI) SARE Coordinator, aims to increase the knowledge and skills of agricultural service providers who assist livestock producers in Connecticut, Massachusetts and Rhode Island. Feedback from the project’s advisory group, a comprehensive needs assessment and direct contact with personnel at agricultural agencies in the three states revealed that service providers want and need education in the areas of pasture management, soil health and manure management. Therefore, over the course of this three-year project, multiple delivery methods are being used to help participants gain knowledge and skills through classroom and field training workshops, online correspondence and access to project materials including short videos, and group discussion. Content and curricula are being developed in collaboration with the project advisory group that includes agricultural service providers, representatives from the agricultural industry and interested farmers in each of the respective states.

Project resources are posted on the Meat Systems website, hosted by the University of Connecticut Cooperative Extension.
