Nutrition’s Role in Sustainable Livestock Production Practices
This project, offered from 2017 to 2020, is training a cohort of 30 agricultural service providers in Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Rhode Island in the area of animal nutrition as it relates to livestock health and well-being, pasture management, and nutrient management decisions. Training is being offered through classroom and field-based workshops and an online platform is encouraging group discussion and collaboration as participants develop action steps to work with and advise livestock farmers.
Health care practices for food animals: CT, MA, RI Joint initiative
Connecticut collaborated with Massachusetts and Rhode Island on this three year initiative to train Extension and university educators, State Departments of Agriculture personnel, Veterinarians and NRCS staff about the current status of drug and antibiotic use, regulations, labeling information, protocols for treating sick animals. Participants explored drug-alternative disease prevention interventions related to management practices, environment and feeding.
