From Northeast SARE Regional Director, Dr. Teresa Leslie
Greetings and happy Spring!
A little over a year ago I joined the SARE family via Northeast SARE and it has been a pleasure to serve, fund, and support farmers/ranchers in the District of Columbia, Connecticut, Massachusetts, West Virginia, New Hampshire, Vermont, Rhode Island, Maine, New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, and Maryland.
Through this communication, I really want to celebrate the Sustainable Agriculture Research and Education (SARE) program. Northeast SARE is part of the greater SARE program which is funded by USDA’s National Institute of Food and Agriculture. Since its inception in 1988, SARE’s sole purpose is to serve, fund, and support farmers/ranchers across our great nation.
SARE projects depend on farmer/rancher experience and expertise. They are encouraged to lead projects which allows for the transfer or practical, reliable and timely information about farming/ranching systems. SARE’s projects and work promote partnerships between farmers/ranchers, nonprofit organizations, agribusiness, and public and private research and extension institutions.
Through farmer/rancher driven and focused research and education, SARE funds climate and/or bioenergy research that provides direct and/or indirect benefits to farmers/ranchers. This includes research maintaining, enhancing, and conserving soil, water, energy, and natural resources. SARE funding also creates new markets to increase the employment opportunities for new and established farmers/ranchers, while at the same time protecting their health and the animals they tend.
We at Northeast SARE look forward to continuing our mission and commitment to fund, serve, and support farmers/ranchers!
Please take some time to explore SARE’s work in your STATE, SARE’s IMPACTS, and the REPORTS FROM THE FIELD.
Also, feel free to share this communication across your networks to inform others about SARE’s awesome projects!
